This is Hop-A-Long Cassidy

I work at a Veterinary Surgical Specialist and Hop-A-Long Cassidy was brought to us by his rescue here in San Diego. He was dumped at a groomer by his breeder in Tijuana, Mexico. He went through one rescue to the next, until he found the one that would give him the surgical treatment he deserved. He is only a year old and his leg is so deformed it can't even touch the ground.

Crooked bones

Hop-A-Long Cassidy suffered from a birth defect that gave his right femur (left in the x-ray) an extra bend. It also make his knee cap go to the side of his leg, which is why you can't see it in the x-ray. Hop-A-Long Cassidy could barely walk, the leg was non-functional. He came to our hospital with the hope that surgery would help fix him.

Fixed bones

After a long surgery of cutting Hop-A-Long Cassidy's femur, making a new place for his knee cap to sit, and repairing the deformity, Hop-A-Long Cassidy is on his way to a full recovery. He started using the leg right after surgery. You can see him walk less than 24 hours after surgery here: Pain-free and playing with his favorite toys: You can see him run & playing: Donate to your local rescue to save more Cassidy's like him!
